In my former life, I struggled, like so many, under the weight of addiction. I know what it feels like to live in a cycle of self-destruction, to look in the mirror and feel a stranger staring back, numbing the pain in whatever way I could. On September 28, 2022, I hit what would become my turning point. I thought a drink or two would keep me in control, but within hours, I was on a downward spiral of heavy drinking, a desperate search for narcotics, and a car wreck that left me with no money, no food, and a hollow ache inside me. It was the lowest I’d ever been, and I knew I had to find a way out. 

The next day, I followed a friend's advice, seeking a form of help I never would have considered before: plant medicine. At that doorstep, in front of a woman who had the power to guide me, I broke down. I was done with feeling trapped by substances. She welcomed me inside, and that day, September 29, 2022, marks the beginning of a new life for me.

On October 8, I experienced my first ceremony. Eight hours of profound inner work led me to confront the deeper root of my addiction. Alcohol and drugs were only symptoms of my pain—not the cause. That realization lifted a weight I’d been carrying for far too long. Since that day, my desire to return to old patterns has been gone.

By December, I began creating. Art poured out of me—through paint, music, and words. I realized I wasn’t just working through my past; I was building a life that honored my spirit. Art became my voice, and music became my way of communicating to others that healing, too, is possible.
